Bloomington is one of the outstanding communities in the Midwest. Nestled in the rolling hills of south central Indiana, it has long been known for its big city offerings while maintaining its quaint Midwestern charm. Home to three lakes, two forests, thriving shops, ethnic restaurants, live music, and most of all, Indiana University, the town has a cultural diversity rare in small town Midwestern settings.

Indiana University, with some of the nation's top programs in areas such as music, business and other arts and sciences, is a significant resource for Bloomington. The University brings a level of culture not found in other similarly sized communities, making Bloomington a center for the performing arts.

Broadway plays, the longest continuing running opera program in the Western Hemisphere and its numerous jazz, rock-and-roll and alternative music clubs makes the area a haven for musicians studying at Indiana University's internationally ranked music school. Add the numerous outdoor activities of hiking, hiking, canoeing and caving and Bloomington is perfect for those who love outdoor adventure, indoor fun and music everywhere they go!.

One of Monroe County's greatest attributes is the ability to mix quality growth with the surrounding beauty of the terrain. Limestone quarries dot the area as do lakes and forests. But we're not all nature here. Shopping abounds with a restored downtown full of specialty shops, restaurants and hometown flavor. Mega bookstores, quality clothing and the traditional mall shopping are also available, as well as a magnitude of concentrated shopping venues that dot the county.

Referred to as the heart of the community, the square is graced with one of the area's most beautiful buildings. The Monroe County Courthouse, built in 1902, is still an active part of government with several of the county offices located there.

The downtown area offers a wide array of specialty shops, restaurants and many of the area's live music clubs. Here you will also find art galleries, cooking shops, clothing for men and women, athletic stores, music and collectible stores. Several times throughout the year local entertainers perform during the lunch time to entertain shoppers.

Bloomington is located within a day's drive for more than half of the U.S. population. Located only an hour south of Indianapolis it is served by several state roads and Highway 37. So it's easier than you think!
